Refosco dal peduncolo rosso - Friuli- Grave D.O.C.

This red has been known and loved ever since the 1700s, but now the grape variety is experiencing a second youth: in the course of the last decades it has become more and more widespread in Friuli, to the point of becoming a true symbol of the region. "Refosco dal peduncolo rosso" is considered by the experts to be the best among the various Refosco wines, and it is no doubt the most precious Friulian red, so appreciated due to its original and well-defined character.

Sensory profile: Lively ruby red in colour. Complex floral and fresh fruit scent. On the palate it prevails the sweet presence of red fruit; pleasant and aromatic in the final phase.
Food pairings: Pastas with meat sauces, game fowl stews, roasted white meat, grilled pork and aged cow milk cheeses.
Service temperature: 18° C.

Production zone: Alpi Carniche of the high Grave Friulana
Grape varieties: 100 % Refosco dal peduncolo rosso
Soil composition: Loose and well aired soil, mainly composed of characteristic calcareous white coloured river stones from Grave, the result of flooding by the Meduna torrent.
Vineyard - growing systems and principal training forms: Guyot, with rigorous winter pruning, and intervention on the vegetation for leaf control apparatus and production. Protection against parasites and soil management respecting the environment.
Harvest: Manual, around the second half of September.
Vinification: In stainless steel, preceded by cold maceration of the grapes for at least 4 days. Warm fermentation lasts about 12 days and reaches a maximum peak temperature 28°C. The reassembly of the must and 'delestage' are not very frequent for this variety. Matures in stainless steel and large wooden barrels.
Conservation: In standing bottles when consumption is expected within a short time. Otherwise it is suggested to lay the bottle down at a temperature as close as possible to 16 - 18¡C in the dark.
Bottle and content: Bordolese bottle of 0,75 lt.
Packaging: Box containing 6 bottles positioned vertically (12 for the market in the U.S.A.).
